A truly unforgettable "glamping" experience. The camp was everything I imagined and then some, with rooms straight out of a luxury safari hotel complete with glamorously appointed en-suite bathrooms. Yet, all of this designed in such a way that you still feel fully immersed in nature. The Leopard Trails team on-site, led by our expert ranger Malmi, were excellent - super friendly very attentive to our needs. The food was outstanding as well, with a carefully curated menu of Sri Lankan and western (including barbecue) cuisine which seems to pull inspiration from the jungle setting. With all that said about the camp, our safari excursions didn't disappoint either. While we did catch a fleeting glimpse of the park's most famous resident, the leopard, it was the intense late evening encounter with a lone male elephant, and the sloth bear we observed going about his morning breakfast of termites from just a few yards away from our jeep that will remain etched in our memories. Again, Malmi was the perfect guide - keeping us engaged and entertained throughout with his expert knowledge of the park and its inhabitants, as well as his quick wit. Definitely worth a repeat visit, to both the park AND this awesome "glamp".
Had three great nights here. Stayed in the best of the tents, the upgraded luxury one, which was comfortable and well appointed. We were also the only guests during our stay so camp staff waited on us like royalty. Our guide/ranger Malmi was so friendly, a great host and quality ranger. He is very knowledgeable and entertaining as well as passionate about the wildlife. Camp staff friendly and professional. Food delicious and always far more than we could possibly need. Had also spent three nights at Yala on this trip and I preferred Wilpattu National Park for the wildlife. Saw sloth bear on three occasions, leopards twice, but all were top quality sightings whereas some sightings in Yala were adversely affected by the high number of vehicles. Birdlife excellent, landscapes varied and interesting. Also saw golden jackels, all three native deer, elephants, four types of eagle, kites, two different snake species, a huge yellow kneed tarantula, a kangaroo lizard, crocodiles, many tortoises and all the more common animal residents of Sri Lanka. We even were charged by a bull elephant! Thanks for an unforgettable trip. I highly recommend this camp.
Decided to go on a trip with my parents and their friends. We stayed one night at LT Wilpattu and it exceeded our expectations! First- the staff, so very kind and extremely knowledgeable, not only on wildlife and nature but Sri Lanka as a whole. We were hosted and looked after by Malmi. An absolute gem who made sure that we all were happy after and comfortable. My tent had an indoor shower- I mean, really?! If this is called camping I could do it every day. The overall dining experiences was fab. Especially dinner! Dining underneath the stars, with a camp lit up with oil lamps. WOW! We made some lovely friends and shared beautiful stories around the campfire along with a glass of wine. We were lucky to see many animals, leopards, elephants, deer, bears, snakes, crocodiles, birds and many other species. It is a national park and you could stand a chance of not seeing anything, but don’t worry, If you love nature you will love Wilpattu for its flora. It’s astonishing. Thank you all at LT for your GENUINE hospitality! Truly unforgettable
If you're looking for the best possible safari experience in Sri Lanka, you'll find it at Leopard Trails. I had long anticipated a visit here after hearing great reviews, and was very happy when it exceeded my expectations. I am an avid safari traveler and photographer, so I have pretty high expectations when it comes to good game viewing, guiding, and standard of service, and can easily say that Leopard Trails nails it for all of the above. The tents are spacious and comfortable, the food is wonderful. But the best part is the service and attention to detail. You won't find it anywhere else better in Sri Lanka. I love the cold towels and welcome drink after game drive! A big shout out to my guide Malmi, who has incredible knowledge and passion for the bush, and is a great host. Nothing was too much to ask. Wilpattu itself is an excellent game reserve. In two nights we had two great sightings of sloth bears, which I was hoping to see. Vehicle density is low and the park is so big there are endless places to explore. It is definitely a must - visit on a Sri Lanka wildlife tour.
Everything about the place was lovely. Starting with the beautiful setting, leopard trails takes the concept of luxury camping to a whole other level. The cleanliness was off the charts, the staff along with the ranger was extremely professional and very generous, outstanding food and service...highly recommended!
