Spot the incredibly rare red-shanked douc langur with an expert naturalist guide
This is one of the best wildlife experiences in Da Nang, where you’ll have the rare chance to spot one of the world’s rarest and most endangered primates - the red-shanked douc langur - in the wild. With their striking colours, they’re often called one of the most beautiful primates in the world.Da Nang is most known for its white sandy beaches and rows of resorts, but there's a completely different side to the city that most travellers never see. Just beyond the coastline lies Son Tra, also known as “Monkey Mountain” - a mountainous nature reserve that has remained largely untouched. This is the last refuge for the red-shanked douc, with only about 2,000 individuals left in the wild. But with your expert naturalist guide and wildlife photographer Luc, you have a good chance of spotting them! Luc is widely known one of the the top red-shanked douc langur experts and conservationists. He's worked closely with NGOs in Da Nang to help protect the doucs and their habitat, knows their favourite hiding spots, recognises different families, and understands their behaviours intimately. Even in less-ideal misty or rainy conditions, he can often spot what others would miss. His sharp eye extends beyond primates - as an avid birder, he can help you spot rare species like the White-crested Laughingthrush, Laced Woodpecker, Black Eagle, and Crested Serpent Eagle. If you're a traveller who loves wildlife and nature, or just want to explore a different side of Da Nang, this is a must-do experience. What to ExpectWitness the elusive Red-shanked Douc Langur in its natural habitat.Discover a variety of reptile and insect species.Learn about the diverse birdlife, including the White-crested Laughingthrush, Laced Woodpecker, Black Eagle, and more.Explore the captivating landscape of Monkey Mountain, including areas once part of a US military base.Benefit from the knowledge of an expert guide with a passion for Vietnamese wildlife and conservation.TipsWear comfortable walking shoes suitable for varied terrain.Bring a hat, sunscreen, and insect repellent. While binoculars and a primate book are provided, feel free to bring your own equipment.
