Kayak through Langkawi's mangroves and ancient limestone with a veteran dad-daughter naturalist duo.Explore the forest between land and sea, with ancient limestone surrounding the waters of the UNESCO Global Geopark, with local naturalists who have spent the last 25 years observing and taking notes. The tide of the hour will reveal the many wildlife that reside within the complex roots, from the resident White-bellied Sea Eagle soaring high up in the sky to landing on its nest built on the limestone 25m above the water. As you walk through the forest, paddle through the labyrinth and jump in for a soothing dip, your guide will share the stories connecting geology, science, nature and local knowledge. Together, we open our minds and connect the dots by imemersing with nature and within this time in the wilderness. What makes this experience special is the way your guides bring nature to life. Instead of simply pointing out trees or wildlife, they dive deeper into how it all came about and explore the symbiosis between nature and humans. One has to be curious enough to enjoy the spontaneous journey in the mangroves: chuck away the checklist and appreciate the moment. Depending on luck and tide patterns, you will enjoy observing elusive otters looking for fresh catch, mangrove pit vipers resting calmly on the branches, raptors and kingfishers targeting their prey or mudskippers digging deeper into the cooling alluvial mud or walking backwards and into their hideout. Selva is a self-taught naturalist and one of Langkawi’s most experienced nature guides. Having spent decades exploring the island, he has witnessed its landscapes, wildlife and communities change over the years — giving him a rare perspective on Langkawi’s natural and cultural heritage.
With his deep knowledge of plants, wildlife and local history, Selva brings nature to life through stories and observations, helping guests notice the details they would otherwise miss. His daughter, Dharkshen, adds her own perspective through her work in communication, diving and marine conservation in the Celebes Sea.
Together, they create experiences that encourage people to explore with curiosity and care. Selva also believes in leaving nature better than we found it — he regularly collects litter while paddling and encourages guests to help care for the waterways too.
