Coral tales & craft beers with a passionate marine biologist
[Only on 14 Mar & 5 Apr 2026] Around the world, coral reefs are crossing critical tipping points. Because of climate change, most coral reefs won’t recover on their own anymore. What is cool and surprising is that Singapore actually still has very diverse coral reefs, surviving in murky, heavily urban waters. That makes what happens here matter more than most of us realise! This experience is a chance to finally understand what’s really going on, through the eyes of someone doing the work (and with beers!).Over two relaxed hours (with a beer in hand), you’ll hear first-hand stories from Sam, a marine conservationist who spends her days underwater restoring damaged reefs in Singapore and Indonesia. She'll share about what she’s seen: how coral gets damaged, the community and research efforts to help it recover, and what most people get wrong about “saving the ocean”.You’ll see real photos and videos from local reefs you probably didn’t even know existed. You’ll learn how everyday waste ends up on the seabed crushing coral (even a washing machine!), and why mindful daily choices matter for our oceans. The drinks are part of the story too. The beer for this event is brewed using sea salt Sam brought back from a fishing village in Bali, where local fishermen are restoring reefs once damaged by cyanide fishing. Part of the proceeds goes back to supporting that work - so this isn’t just a talk about conservation, you get to become part of it!About Sam Everything started with a reef survey dive that changed Sam’s life - seeing a washing machine crushing a living coral reef beneath Singapore’s waters. What began as shock turned into action, as she and her friends committed to cleaning up the reefs dive by dive, leading her to co-found Our Singapore Reefs. As a marine conservationist, Sam spends her days surveying reef health, documenting marine life, leading community dives and teaching at NUS College. Passionate about making marine science accessible, Sam bridges research with real-world action, showing how even small coastal cities can safeguard underwater ecosystems. Her work is a reminder that Singapore’s reefs are alive, fragile, and worth fighting for. What to ExpectEngaging coral conservation talk by a marine conservationist, sharing her field work in Singapore and IndonesiaEvent-exclusive craft beer by 1925 Brewing Co - a bright, salty brew made with Balinese sea salt sourced from the reef-restoring fishing community Sea Communities (a non-alcoholic drink is also available)Exclusive canapés seasoned with flavoured Balinese sea salt by Get SomeOpen Q&A session and lots of time to mingle and discuss ideas with other curious individualsTake-home a bottle of the event-exclusive craft beer and a pack of flavoured Balinese sea salt from Sea CommunitiesGood to KnowThe entire event lasts around 2 hoursWhile canapés are provided, full dinner isn't included - we suggest grabbing a bite at the restaurant after with a 15% discount!Part of the proceeds support Sea Communities' coral reef restoration projects in Bali— Seek Sophie SG Exclusives: Singapore on the Wild SideAs 2026 kicks off, this exclusive series is our invitation to slow down and look closer.
