This immersive workshop takes you deeper into the art of Peranakan beadwork
This hands-on Peranakan shoe beading workshop is perfect for those eager to dive deeper into the art of Nyonya beadwork. You’ll learn traditional stitching techniques to create intricate patterns on shoe uppers, using between 6,000 to 10,000 tiny Miyuki or Czech glass beads. This isn’t just about making a simple craft—it's about crafting your very own beaded shoe uppers, a rewarding challenge that you’ll complete in stages, taking your project home to finish at your own pace. All materials are provided, and you'll leave with a one-of-a-kind beaded shoe upper, ready to be transformed into a stunning pair of handmade shoes. Whether for yourself or as a gift, your finished creation will be a true work of art, reflecting your creativity and cultural connection.Note:Please note that only the shoe uppers / making of the beaded part are included in the workshop. If you wish to transform your beaded upper into a complete pair of shoes, shoemaker fees (From 50 SGD) will be charged separately.Due to the increased intensity of this workshop, class sizes are kept small, max. 3 participants—to ensure personalised attention and a focused experience.

Meet your host
Swee Lin and Swee May Lee are two sisters from a Peranakan Malaysian background who started ManekNya in 2022. Together, they’ve built a brand that reflects their roots through the detailed art of beading. Each piece they create is a nod to their heritage, with thoughtful care put into every detail. What makes them stand out is how they balance tradition with a modern touch, all while making space to share stories behind the craft. They’re not just running a business—they’re keeping something special alive and making sure others can enjoy and learn about it too.
