Review Body: I came here for 1 week with a group of 11 people as part of a yoga retreat. It was my first time in Bali and set the bar incredibly high! The setting is just stunning and the photos/videos don't even do it justice. Lush, greenery everywhere, well-maintained gardens, fresh flowers all over the property, the sound of birds... It's truly close to paradise. It's blissfully quiet and in nature. You can even see monkeys in the forest from your balcony -- no need to go to the touristy monkey temple! The salt water pool is perfect for a cool dip and if there's a thunderstorm, I recommend sitting in the jacuzzi or using the steam room (part of the spa, but open to guests anytime even if you haven't booked a service that day). The rooms are lovely. No AC, but it's not needed with the cool breeze at night. It's a little cooler here compared to Ubud -- possibly due to elevation and less air pollution/crowds? I also was amazed I did not get many mosquito bites, as I usually get eaten alive in any tropical destination.
Every detail is thought of and the service from all staff was outstanding. There is no question or request that they were not happy to help with. For example, my roommate's tote bag strap broke, and they sewed it up and fixed it for him for no charge. Or on the free nature walk (highly recommended, by the way), another guest dropped her phone in a pond and a staff member actually dove in to fish it out for her... The property is sprawling alongside a hill, but if you get tired they will send a golf cart to pick you up.
Rooms were well maintained and very clean. The yoga shala is beautiful - nothing like practicing with a view of the jungle. I had a Balinese massage at the spa which was very relaxing and luxurious, though if you don't mind a simpler setting, you can find similar massages in town for a fraction of the price. Still, the spa is great if you don't want the hassle of going into town (which is a ~30 mins. taxi ride). I took advantage of some of the free scheduled activities on the days that I did not do excursions. They were excellent - the nature walk, Balinese dance lesson, and yoga/meditation led by a local. In terms of excursions, the staff were helpful at arranging transportation for the group and making suggestions. But honestly, the place is so wonderful, you barely want to leave.
The restaurant was very good. At breakfast, you can enjoy a mix of western and asian foods such as made to order omelettes, toast, cereals as well as miso soup, nasi goreng, pandan cakes, etc. The freshly squeezed juices were my favourite. As for lunch/dinner, it was mostly good although I would stick to the Indonesian dishes (rather than Western fare).
There is a beautiful Balinese traditional house on the property including a small temple, where we had a special welcoming ceremony and farewell dinner. It was a lovely way to learn more about the local customs and we felt like royalty the way we were welcomed and treated.
If I come back to Bali again, I would stay here again for sure. Normally, I like to try different properties when I return to a destination, however Bagus Jati gets everything right so it's hard to imagine going anywhere else.

Review Body: Bagus Jati was the Bali I wanted Bali to be: stunning tidy property clinging slopeside a gorge facing steep cliffs adorned in tree ferns and jungle foliage. Guests stay in their own private bungalow with a porch and full wall windows on three sides, a king canopy bed and generous bathroom with soaking tub and shower, blazing hot water, and thoughtful features like universal plug hookups, hot water fast boil kettle, fruit, and robes. Seriously the most romantic room I've ever stayed in, though I was traveling alone, as were many of the other guests. In January the property was cool and misty with refreshing tropical rains during the heat of the day, so I never needed air conditioning. There were surprisingly few bugs other than butterflies and very cool dragonflies. My (off-season) rate of $142/night (Trip Advisor rate) included a full breakfast to order, a morning yoga class, evening meditation class, and complimentary day activities like making Chanang (daily offering), nature walk/village explore, and water aerobics. The yoga pavilion looks like Something out of Lord of the Rings' Rivendale. If you are into Yoga or dance or meditation, it's the most perfect spot imaginable. The infinity pool was majestically set at the base of the resort, with a trio of spouting fish statues making it a work of art. A level over the pool is the spa, where a lovely menu of massage and Beaty services were available. It was way more expensive than Ubud, where an hour massage was $10, but still way more affordable than in the U.S., and you got it in the most beautiful setting imaginable. The spa was extremely professionally managed, clean, and they provide robes, shoes, lockers, tea, and other features of a high end spa.
Bagus Jati is about 45 minutes from Ubud in the middle of nowhere so you are a captive audience. While they offer complimentary shuttles to Ubud and sell day trips to surrounding attractions, the glory of Bagus is go nowhere and just enjoy the tranquility of a perfect time out. I stayed 3 of my 6 nights in Bali here. Captive means there is only one place to eat, at their restaurant. While it was beautiful and the service was perfect, the food did not match my experiences in Ubud. I sent a snapper dinner on banana leaf back for being too tough and chewy and tasteless. My best experiences were sticking to the vegetables they grew on property. Fresh and healthy, but no real interesting sauces, dressings, or preparations. Definitely not a deal killer though. The experience gets 5 stars even with mediocre dining.
I cannot say enough about the grounds and service. The property is adorned with beautiful water features and sculptures, all dressed in fresh floating flowers. It is not great for mobility impaired, as there are lots of stairs and steep (but not slippery) paths. They offer golf cart rides up the hill (I enjoyed the workout so walked everywhere) but there is no escaping copious stairs even with help. The staff were attentive and friendly and professional.

Review Body: I needed some time away to unwind and recalibrate and Bagus Jati Health & Wellbeing Retreat was the perfect place for that. Offering daily yoga and meditation, absolute peace and quiet, clean eating and one of the best spa's I've experienced my needs were met.
The food at the restaurant ( much of which was supplied by the organic gardens on site) was delicious. The only flaw, in my opinion, is that unhealthy options were available (like beef burgers and pizza) where I would have preferred more variety of healthy foods however my husband was with me and he enjoyed still being able to indulge. We also would have preferred more water in the room as one small bottle per day each wasn't sufficient to clean our teeth with and also drink enough water to stay hydrated. We ended up making repeat trips to the pool bar to refill the bottles each day.
We stayed in one of the cheaper rooms however it was still very impressive. I loved that there was no air conditioning and weren't walking in and out of hot and cold environments. It was cool in the evenings so air conditioning wasn't required. All I could hear at night was the jungle!
Our room was basic with no bath and only a shower - which was moldy in places but to be expected when staying right next to the jungle in a tropical environment. Waking each morning to a view of the jungle, a morning swim and walk was just what I needed. I enjoyed afternoon yoga and meditation although I would have preferred meditation be offered separately from yoga and I had let go of my yoga practice but being developed with meditation. The yoga instructors kept the classes basic so I managed to keep up. It felt like some days the jungle joined in on the meditation and breathed along with me. The energy at this accommodation is remarkable. Just what I needed to realign.
The location is remote so we relied on the restaurant for food which was expensive however worth it. It's natural that insects and lizards sometimes come to visit which didn't bother us. When you stay next to the jungle it's only natural. I enjoyed every second of my stay and will return, although as the accommodation and food is expensive I can't afford to stay more than 3-4 days. If you want to experience UBud city I recommend splitting your holiday and staying in the city for a few days and enjoyed the time at Bagus Jati Health & Wellbeing Retreat without needing to leave due to the remote location (about 30-45 minute drive from UBud).
I would recommend Bagus Jati Health & Wellbeing Retreat to single travelers or couples who want to reset and are health-focused. I wouldn't recommend for children or elderly people due to the large numbers of stairs and facilities designed for a quiet health-centric retreat.

Review Body: agus Jati is peaceful, quiet and wonderfully set in nature on the hillside of a tropical forest, far away from the touristy crowds seen in much of Bali. We had a gorgeous terrace looking out over the entire valley and could see the sun rise and set every day. The grounds are beautifully laid out, with stone steps and paths winding through gardens, pavilions and water features so typical of Bali's beauty. There is also a wonderful spring fed pool and lovely spa. The entire time one has the feeling of being surrounded by nature and gardens and balinese architecture. The attention to detail is very touching with bowls filled with flowers dotted throughout the gardens and rooms. The resort is wide spread which gives a nice feeling of space and privacy, some guests might have issues with the distances and number of steps. That said, there are buggies to pick up guests any time. We however did enjoy the long walks up and down the gardens.
The staff were all extremely thoughtful and kind, from the reception to the restaurants, the spa staff and cleaning staff, the service by the pool, the yoga teachers...everyone was attentive, warm and kind. A special thanks to reception for giving us room 106 as an upgrade, it made our ten days very special.
We enjoyed yoga every morning and afternoon and the yoga room itself made the lessons blissful with the sound of waterfalls, birds, and the panorama of the forest. The lessons themselves were very good.
The food was wonderful, many choices on the menu and an excellent breakfast that was served at your table, which is much nicer than a buffet. The restaurant staff were lovely and always a pleasure to exchange words with.
There are many activities offered, for example nature walks, yoga, temple visits and ceremonies. There is also a shuttle service to take you into Ubud.
The spa services were excellent and very professional.
*It should be noted, we travelled during the low season, which meant there weren't many guests in the entire hotel. This naturally enhanced the feeling of peace and quiet which we quite enjoyed. On our last night a large group arrived, I'm not sure how the atmosphere would have changed had the hotel been full.

Review Body: I read the reviews of Bagus Jati before making a reservation. I want to give my highest recommendation to the resort and also address a few of the previous negative reviews:
First of all, Bagus Jati is about 1 to 1 1/2 hours north of Ubud. Ubud is a bustling tourist centre even during low/rainy season. If you want busy then stay in Ubud. You will be asked if you want a taxi quite literally HUNDREDS of times when you walk on the street. Not my idea of relaxation...
Secondly, Bagus Jati is located on a property that can only be described as magical - surrounded by jungle and jungle noise. Butterflies float in the air, huge flocks of birds whirl by and every day there is a mass of dragonflies that float around the spa and pool area. Like heaven!!!
We could not afford a luxury villa, so we chose the least expensive accommodation. We were very pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a $400 a night room when we had only paid $75 a night. The room and outdoor patio with a view was spectacular.
Now it’s true that you are far from civilization, but every day the hotel offers a free shuttle to Ubud. Take the shuttle and explore the sights. I highly recommend eating a big lunch while you are in Ubud to enjoy some variety in food. Definitely eat at Locavore!
Let’s talk food. I agree that the food does not really match the superior quality of the hotel. The breakfasts, although were very good and we both enjoyed pasta dinners. We were disappointed one evening by the beef tenderloin but the manager returned our money and gave us other food FOR FREE. What more can anyone ask for???
The staff was friendly, hard-working and knowledgeable. From the front desk to the drivers to the walking guide to the masseur - everyone was lovely.
Take advantage of the daily free activities and let the hotel arrange some paid activities for you too.
We really enjoyed the Village Cycle. The Mount Batur Climb was disappointing only because it was rainy and cold. Not the resort’s fault.
To sum it up, if you can afford it, DEFINITELY stay here!!
10 out of 10

Review Body: If you're expecting Bali to be a quiet and peaceful paradise, it's not. The good news is Bagus Jati Health & Wellbeing Retreat is that, and more. I found this place on my second trip to Bali. I came here for a yoga retreat, and it was absolutely spectacular. The resort is built down the side of a gorgeous green hill, nestled in the jungle, far away from city noises, crowds, and pollution. It truly is paradise found, with an almost otherworldly beauty to it. It's perfect for a honeymoon, romantic getaway, yoga retreat, writers or artists retreat etc.
The Villas - Guests stay in their own villas or chalets. They're beautiful with incredible jungle views, balconies, giant bathrooms, mini bar, and safe.
Spa - The main event here is the spa. It's stunning, and the staff is incredibly friendly and talented. I have several treatments when I was there, and loved them all. Hot stone and Shiatsu were my favorites.
Pool - Gorgeous pool with jungle view. There is pool side beverage and food service.
Yoga/Meditation - if you are here for yoga, the shala is GORGEOUS with three giant windows that completely open from floor to ceiling. All you see when practicing is green trees and jungle and hear all the wonderful sounds that go with it, from birds to wind to rain. It's magic.
Food - The Food is fantastic! Great options for Vegetarians, Vegans, and meat eaters. Whatever you do, make sure to try the green pancakes at breakfast!! Also, all the desserts were amazing.
Location: About 2 - 2.5 hours from the airport depending on traffic. It's about 30 - 45 mins past Ubud depending on traffic. I drove from the airport to Ubud, spent one night in Ubud before going to Bagus Jati, and then do a day trip in to Ubud while I was there and it was perfect.
Note: I went during rainy season and absolutely loved it. Everyday at around 3:00 we got an incredible tropical rain. It was so nice to sit in the covered hot tub and watch it pour, or lay on my balcony and read. Loved it! And, of course, the jungle was green green green.

Review Body: I am a yoga studio owner and retreat leader from Johns Creek, GA, USA. I brought a group of 26 people to Bagus Jati 2 weeks ago, and I was overwhelmed by the incredible service and attention to detail provided by the staff throughout our time.
The grounds and facilities at Bagus Jati are breathtakingly beautiful and provide a full immersion into true Balinese culture, complete with a large sacred temple, daily offerings of flowers and incense and meticulously manicured gardens. I had visited last year, and this is what impressed me the most, but having fully immersed there for a week, I must say that the beauty of the staff far exceeds the beauty of the landscape.
I had been in close communication with the resort manager, Nyoman, prior to our arrival, and his careful planning, excellent record keeping and coordination made everything go incredibly smoothly...from multiple airport pick-ups and transfers, to planning excursions, to room preparation for our yoga practices and meetings.
Our group included a number of people with special dietary needs, all of which were attended to at every single meal. The restaurant manager, Styawan, was a highlight of the trip with his careful menu preparation, but he really went above and beyond our expectations when he invited us into his home when we went to his village for the Ogah Ogah celebration before Nyepi.
Finally...a special mention to our tour guide, Buddha who shared his culture with us on every outing, climbed Mount Batur, walked us through numerous temples, shared a bike ride and led us in multiple blessing ceremonies at the temple. His joyful demeanor and deep knowledge of both the area and culture left us all with a new appreciation for the Balinese people in general.
Thank you to the entire staff at Bagus Jati for a wonderful week!

Review Body: This is the most beautiful place in the world for those who loves nature. Photography does not give an idea of the majesty of the jungle and its sounds. The staff are excellent, the best custumer care I ever received in my life and I have traveled a lot, I can say that. I had a detox program and lost 4,5 kg in 10 days. there is a very professional doctor, who visits you every two days and combine a detox diet with exceptional quality foods, doctor's visits, acupuncture sessions and massages that would cost 5 times more in Europe or America. Yuki the Japanese manager who coordinates Bagus Jati is a person of great education and professionalism. A refined and intelligent woman who understands the needs of the guests and makes you feel like in Buckingham Palace by Queen Elizabeth. Nyoman the director is an exquisite, reserved and attentive person always ready to answer the emails and questions of all to give the best of service. The masseuses, the waiters, the yoga instructors, all of them are worthy to work in any 5-star luxury hotel in the world and teach, in the West what really means customer care. We have so much to learn from Bagus Jati. This place can not be underestimated, the bungalows are huge and all have a stunning view of the jungle. The food is exalted and prepared with the vegetables and fruit of their garden, as well as the creams for massages. Do not be afraid to go to Indonesia because the Agung volcano erupts, this place is very far from the volcano and the sea, both in case of eruption or tsumani there is no danger, any kind of danger. I will definitely be back. vote 10 and a lot of gratitude for everyone. "The kindness of words creates trust. The kindness of thoughts creates depth. Kindness in giving creates love." Review Body: I booked my very first solo trip and yoga retreat ever with Bagus Jati. If you are looking for somewhere to just get away from work, stress, life, this is it. Bagus Jati is located on 12 acres of secluded tropical forests. I went during non-busy rainy season so there were hardly any one else. Each guest gets their own private villa. The entire compound is stunningly beautiful - kind of feels like you are in paradise. The staff is so friendly and attentive - service quality is the best I've ever experienced. Since I was traveling alone, many of my interactions were with them. A lot of the classes and activities I signed up for ended up being 1:1 or like private classes/tours, which was awesome.
If you are looking for a yoga retreat that is to be with a group of other yogis, talk about life and purpose and what not, do group communal activities, this will not be what you are looking for. I'd say Bagus Jati is more for one to completely relax and rejuvenate. I loved having time to myself and reflect, which is something I rarely do back home. The place has a very serene and tranquil vibe.
There were a number of other solo female travelers too which we all became friends and chatted with one another at some point. All of us agreed that we wish we had booked more days at Bagus Jati and none of us wanted to leave. Definitely want to come back!

Review Body: Wow! We spent an amazing 5 nights in Bagus Jati in a Deluxe Villa. We originally booked a Superior Villa but were upgraded upon arrival. The villa itself was luxurious, tranquil and absolutely beautiful. The grounds are peaceful and lush and you feel instantly revitalised the minute you step foot into Bagus Jati. We selected their 5 night Healing Spa Package which included massage and spa treatments and daily morning yoga. The yoga pavilion had bifold doors that opened up to reveal the jungle - it was an amazingly peaceful space to practice yoga and meditation. The food at Surya Restaurant was excellent, we ate there every day and never had a bad meal. We also did the cycling tour through the village and nature walks. The guides were knowledgeable and provided a personalised service. Every single staff member was friendly and helpful - their hospitality and service was genuine and beyond our expectations. This place is truly healing, even without the spa package.
Would recommend Bagus Jati for anyone wanting to recharge, connect back to themselves, detox or unwind. We didn't feel like guests here, we felt like family. Can't wait to go back!

Review Body: Let me get the tiny amount of bad stuff before all the amazing good stuff. My Bed and pillow's were not comfortable at all. I got used to it by the end of the trip. Everyone else I spoke to didn't have a problem at all with their beds, so it may have just been my room. That's it!
The rest of it was amazing. I did the healing package for 5 nights. The food was brilliant and if you're gluten, dairy, vegan than you'll be catered for here. (You can get dairy, meat & gluten too). The staff were super friendly and would do anything for you. The morning Yoga was fantastic. The breeze came in through the big open doors and was so refreshing and relaxing. They really have their yoga practice down pat. It wasn't particularly difficult as there were a lot of beginners there, they focused so much on the essence of yoga rather than the actual poses. It was lovely. The resort itself was probably the most beautiful place I have ever stayed. Perfectly maintained and the mountains in the background were perfect. You can definitely travel solo here. I think this may be my new annual trip.

Review Body: I was here many years ago and was very taken by the experience and said to myself that I would bring a Yoga retreat here one day! 6 years later I did just that and I arrived this winter with 27 other people all ready to experience the Bali that I had many years prior. No one was disappointed.
I have been blessed to have traveled extensively, and I can say without a doubt that this place as well as all the resorts owned by this company are all above par. They superseded all expectations and my guests left feeling the same nostalgia that I had many years previously. That this is truly a special place, kissed by God/Krisna Himself and I leave once again in awe of the beauty not only of the land and resort itself epic are are both breathtaking but of the people, they are the true beauty of this place that God has blessed. I would invite all that are searching and seeking the divine to entrust in this beautiful place, for it is more than a destination or vacation but a transformation spiritual experience.

Review Body: I was here for a yoga retreat for 11 nights. The yoga retreat was fabulous, but my review needs to focus on Bagus Jati. Yes!! Just say YES to this beautiful and sweet place. You are quite literally surrounded by nature, jungle, rivers and peace. My room, 303, was so comfortable, the grounds of this retreat are stunningly beautiful and the food is all grown on the grounds - it's amazing!
The spa... I could not ask for more accommodating and talented therapists. I tried several different treatments while staying there and each one was unique.
The pool. That pool. It's stunning.
Be prepared for the stairs and hills. You are in the jungle. They were always accommodating with golf carts to come and get you, which I used after spa treatments - but otherwise, I climbed. It was a great workout and a wonderful way to experience all the nature that is nurtured here.
Buddha was a fantastic guide. Everyone I interacted with at Bagus Jati was helpful, friendly and easy.

Review Body: I came here because I wanted to treat myself on my 45th birthday. It was the perfect thing to do. The resort is absolutely beautiful and I did yoga everyday. The classes are great for beginners and the yoga room could not be more spectacular. I am vegetarian and the food was delicious. There is also an amazing pool and there is really no reason to leave the resort. There is also a hot tub where you can see the view of the whole forest.
I did a spa package which included massage and the breakfasts/dinners. I had 6 amazing hours of massage/wraps/shirodara.
I met amazing people that I will remember and I would definitely recommend coming here alone or with your friends! I had a room near the yoga room-207, which I would recommend because it is near the river. The staff was amazing and so helpful with everything and anything. I will always remember my time here with the biggest smile.

Review Body: Beautiful place and Villas are gorgeous. Fresh fruit every day and would thoroughly recommend it for young fit people or honeymooners who want peace and quiet. The property is .about half an hour or slightly more from Ubud and it's pretty much isolated. There is a gree shuttle to Ubud every day and to go anywhere in the resort they hava a free shuttle. The Spa treatments were excellent but very expensive. I had a 90 minute massage and an organic facial which cost me around $130.00 Australian dollars, far more than I normally pay at the resort I normally stay at. No T.V in the rooms either. It certainly was quiet and over peaceful and in my opinion way overpriced. If you want peace, are fit and money is no object. It would be a reasonable place to stay however I don't consider it to be a great destination for a single traveller on a budget

Review Body: If you're looking for a place you can completely just shut off and relax in, this is it. The beauty of Ubud is even more accessible here as the property is so beautifully spread out you feel embedded in its natural lush, and get a complete sense of privacy in your villa. Decor is very tastefully done as well. Staff are super attentive and mostly come from Jati village, so they are very involved in the programming and running of activities - it felt like a truly local experience. Massage therapists were excellent, food was delicious - I'm not someone who can do a total detox so this was a great alternative. Healthy, but not TOO healthy. And the yoga activities are also do-able for beginner level. Honestly there are no points of stress because they had everything covered, and it was just a charming experience. Highly recommended.

Review Body: I was so overwhelmed with the beautiful gardens and natural rain forest backdrop that I thought I may have died and gone to heaven. Then I saw my little house and knew I was in for five incredibly special and peaceful days. I enjoyed everything. The yoga twice a day, the spa treatments, the happy, friendly staff and even the numerous steps everywhere (you can get lifts in a golf buggy but I set a goal not to). The breakfast was an absolute highlight with home-made muesli, yoghurt made locally and the freshest fruit. The only (and it's minor) constructive feedback I have is Bagus Jati might want to cease using paper doilies and disposable straws given the environment and rubbish problems in Bali. Secondly, a communal long table would encourage us numerous solo travellers to mingle more. A few of us would have liked this.

Review Body: Rolling terraced gardens, beautifully appointed rooms, amazing pool and a great schedule of wellness based activities really make this place shine. Add to that an attentive and friendly staff and you have Bagus Jati. The grounds are so beautiful that we started referring to it as Eden, we really didn't ever want to leave. The spa services were lovely, the healthy food in the restaurant was good, some dishes better than others but that's to be expected (I would steer clear of the nasi goreng, a bit dull) The yoga classes were quite basic, a lot of first timers and the pace and skill level were tailored to accommodate. There was no issue with lingering in the studios after classes if you're eager to do a bit more practice. Overall we really enjoyed our time at Bagus Jati.

Review Body: Really amazing place and so much more than just a retreat! This is not just for Yoga - It is a 5 star hotel; resort and retreat! It has the most beautiful gardens and organic veggies. The Spa is amazing and very well priced! The food is really good and they cater for absolutely everyone. From excellent Indonesian food; tasty healthy and western food. We stayed in a Spa room which is really spacious and just really beautiful! There are many free activities and the free daily transfers to Ubud works perfect. The staff are excellent and really makes you feel welcome and valued. I can highly recommend this magical place for anyone wanting to visit Bali - It is special and you will not be disappointed!

Review Body: This is one of the most beautiful places on earth! The food is delicious and world class, but it is the staff at Bagus Jati that truly make this resort such a special place. Wayan in the restaurant, "Cue" lead us on a nature walk and taught us about the local culture and history, the ladies in the spa, Wayan who take care of our villa and Buddha who took care of our needs in the mediation room and by the pool.... these people are amazing and Hospitality and service seems to come naturally to them. From the front desk to all the service in the restaurant and beyond, well done! We will return. Thank you for your warmth and welcoming nature.
