Harvest and cook Balinese food in a quiet Sidemen garden
Traditional Balinese cooking is at its best when it’s truly farm-to-table. But as food production in Bali becomes more industrialised, that connection is getting harder to find. This Seek Sophie plant-based cooking class takes you into an organic garden, where you’ll pick produce and turn whatever is fresh that day into Balinese dishes. You don’t need to be vegan—the food here is really yummy! Our favourite part is the setting: Sidemen is basically Ubud before mass tourism. The garden is a real part of the experience, not just a pretty setting. You’ll learn about the produce as you harvest it, then cook alongside local chefs who show you how classic Balinese recipes can be adapted without losing their depth or flavour. Guests often mention that the dishes feel refreshingly different from the more familiar food they’ve been eating around Bali. After cooking, you’ll sit down to eat in the middle of the garden, with open views across Sidemen and glimpses of Mount Agung.
