Discover the history, footwork and quick thinking behind fencing
A few centuries ago, insulting a gentleman’s honour could lead to a formal duel - with written rules deciding when an apology was enough and when a fight should go ahead! Modern fencing grew from this world of swordsmanship, only now you can try it safely in an adults-only club.During this beginner-friendly 1.5-hour session, you’ll learn from coaches who have competed regionally or internationally, just as Singapore’s fencers are making a bigger mark on the global stage. You’ll cover the basic stance, footwork and weapon handling before moving into target practice and light sparring. It’s a fun mix of movement and strategy: you’ll learn to read your opponent, think quickly and meet others trying something new. Afterwards, grab a drink and chat with the fencers about duelling history, competitions and the differences between foil, épée and sabre. What to ExpectShort introduction to fencing history and the three disciplines: foil, épée and sabreHands-on practice with basic stance, footwork, weapon handling and target workBeginner-friendly sparring sessionComplete fencing equipment and all safety gear providedQ&A with experienced coaches who compete at national and regional levelRefreshments included, with alcoholic drinks available after the sessionGood to KnowAdults-only experienceNo fencing experience is neededWear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes you can move in

With over 30 years in fencing, Nicholas started this club in 2023 after noticing that most fencing spaces in Singapore were built mainly for children. Adults who wanted to learn, train or simply enjoy the sport often had few places that felt comfortable or social. He set out to create a space just for them — with proper facilities, a relaxed setting and room to connect with other adult fencers. He sees fencing as both physical and thoughtful, often like a game of chess with swords, and wants more adults in Singapore to experience it in a welcoming, inclusive way.
