Explore ancient caves, swim in dark chambers, zipline & camp in the wild
This 3-day, 3-night Hung Thoong cave expedition is one of the most well-rounded jungle adventures you’ll find in Phong Nha — and the best part? It only opened in 2023, so you’ll be one of the first to experience this untouched corner of Vietnam. Think jungle trekking, underground swimming, rope descents, and even a zipline soaring 60 metres across a massive sinkhole. It’s the only tour that includes this particular zipline, and while it might give you butterflies (or a full-on scream), gliding 250 metres above the Nightmare Sinkhole is an absolutely epic way to take in the scenery. This is perfect if you’re looking for variety rather than just a trek or cave walk. You’ll hike through untouched jungle, swim through an underground river in Tron Cave, and rappel 25 metres straight down into Thung Cave. If the weather’s on your side, the rope descent even lets you catch dramatic sunbeams seeping into the cave — makes for some seriously cool photos. We’d recommend this for fit and seasoned adventurers who want to pack in multiple types of challenges across jungle, river and cave. It’s also really thoughtfully put together — with porter support to lighten your load, jungle-cooked meals, and cool-down extras like a sauna tent and foot bath at camp. Wild and rugged, yes, but comfort hasn’t been forgotten. What to ExpectBrand new expedition opened in 2023 — visit caves and jungle trails that barely anyone else has seenZipline 60m across Nightmare Sinkhole with a dramatic 250m drop belowRappel 25m into Thung Cave and (if you're lucky with the weather) catch magical sunbeams for wow-worthy photosSwim 1km through the crystal-clear waters of Tron Cave’s underground riverHike 17km through pristine jungle and explore ancient caves with unique formationsDiscover hidden gems like Floating Lake and Midway Gorge — perfect photo opsUnwind at jungle camps with herbal foot baths, massage guns and a tented saunaFeast on freshly prepared jungle meals with your crew after a big day outFinish up at a peaceful lodge with pool access and optional village bike ridesGood to KnowDifficulty level: 6.5/10Ideal for fit travellers — this is a physically demanding trip with challenging terrainAdventure includes 17km trekking, 5km cave exploration, zipline and underground swimmingAll safety and camping gear provided, plus expert guides and safety crew on hand throughoutPorters carry 3kg of your gear to make things easier for youOn-site bathing in fresh rivers and lakes — eco-friendly shampoo is provided, no chemicals allowedClean, composting toilets with hand sanitiser and air freshener at each campThis is a join-in small group experience — great vibe for solo travellers and adventure loversFree pick-up and drop-off in Phong Nha and Dong Hoi areas includedFacilitiesSingle or double tents with foam mattress, blanket, and pillowCampsites by rivers and lakes that are perfect for swimming after your daily hikeComposting toilets, kept clean and with all the essentials providedTent-sauna, massage gun and foot bath provided to soothe sore musclesLodge stay on your final night with a swimming pool, breakfast, and bicycles to explore the village
