Discovering Bali: Munduk

The North of Bali is known for adventure and one of our favourite spots is Munduk!

Discovering Bali: Munduk

Munduk is 2 hours north of Ubud, and still feels pretty remote and undiscovered. Here you'll find ancient jungles with towering trees and untouched waterfalls, one of the most sacred temples in Bali, and a gorgeous lake.

Munduk is also a lot cooler (22-24 degrees) because it’s 3000m above sea level, so it's the perfect climate for outdoors adventures! Getting there is easy if you're staying in Ubud because most of the activities include transport from Ubud.

What to do in Munduk

1

Jungle Trekking

One of the most adventurous things we did in Bali was go jungle trekking in Munduk. The forest here is centuries old, with some sprawling Ficus trees that were even 500 years old!

There are also several stunning waterfalls here that you can hike to, including Banyumala Twin Waterfalls, Munduk Waterfall, and Wanagiri Hidden Hills.

Camping Retreat

This is our favourite way to slow down and enjoy the best of Munduk :)

Not only will you get to go jungle trekking and explore waterfalls, but you'll get to camp at Tamblingan Lake which is such a beautiful experience - relaxing by the campfire, sleeping under the Milky Way and waking up to the sunrise beaming through the morning fog.

It's such a lovely spot to camp at, so if you have time, we highly recommend camping overnight!

Bali's Most Sacred Temples

If you're looking for a spiritual experience, you can visit Bali's most sacred temples in this region. Some temples are more than a thousand years old, and some are even nestled atop a hill, where you will embark on a canoeing adventure across the lake to reach there - definitely an experience to remember!

During this authentic spiritual experience, you'll have the opportunity to participate in ceremonies guided by expert priests and spiritual practitioners.

ATV Riding

If you're looking for more adrenaline pumping adventures, go ATV riding! This full day adventure takes you on a journey through dirt tracks, hills, local plantations, rice terraces, and hidden waterfalls. You can even opt for a half-hour dirt road cycling experience, followed by a picnic lunch.

3D2N Jungle Survival

Probably the most adventurous thing to do in Munduk - a 3D2N bushcraft and adventure combo in one of the lushest and hidden rainforests in Bali.

You'll learn essential survival skills like how to make fire, build shelter, find and filter water, identify edible vegetation, read maps and other fun stuff! Super cool.

Best Time To Go

6

Have we convinced you of the beauty of Munduk yet? If you're thinking of going, the best time to go is during low season from April to June!

Try to avoid the rainy season which is Dec-Mar because it’s not fun to trek or go into waterfalls when its muddy and cold 🥶
