During this trip you will be joining a small group of like minded travellers and climbing Mt Batur to reach the summit by sunrise. This trip also includes a pick up from most hotels located in South Bali or Ubud. If you are the only person being picked up from the specific location, you may be asked to top up for your pick up. On the way back you can stop by a Balinese coffee farm to sample some of the famous island coffee! What to ExpectPick up You will be picked up from your hotel in South Bali or Ubud and taken to the start of the hike in Kintamani, at the base of Mt Batur. As this is a group pick up, the exact time will vary depending on the location of your hotel, but will be sometime between 1.30-2.30am. Your guide will indicate the night before an approximate time. Start of the Trek You will arrive to the start of the trail around 3.30 and after a brief introduction begin the hike. The trek will begin in darkness, but don't worry, your guide will provide you with head lamp to illuminate the path. The first half is fairly easy but once reaching half way, the path becomes a bit more steep and slippery.Reaching the Summit You will reach the summit of 1717 meters right before sunrise. You will be able to enjoy the surroundings from a comfortable seat, overlooking the village rooftops at the bottom, sipping a hot drink and having a yummy banana sandwich and hard boiled egg cooked in the volcanic steam! Psst.. it's cold at the summit! Make sure you have a jacket and long trousers are also a good idea. The Descent After sunrise you will head to the rim of the main crater, where you will have another great vantage point. If it's not too cloudy you will even be able to see Mount Rinjani from the neighboring island of Lombok. Your guide will also tell you a little more about the history of Mt Batur and it's long track record of eruptions. The trek will complete around 8:30am, but depends on your pace.Back to Your Hotel On the way back to your hotel, you can choose to stop by a Balinese coffee plantation. Here you can learn about the importance of the plant to Balinese life as well as observe the locals processing the beans in a traditional way. You can also sample some coffee luwak, considered one of the best coffees in the world. Please note the stop at the coffee plantation is not included in the price. ***Please note this experience requires 2 participants to proceed. If the minimum is not met, it may be rescheduled or you may opt to top up. If you are the only person being picked up from a given location, you may also need to top up IDR 500,000. Your guide will inform you if that's the case.

Meet your host

Meet your host

Ubud sunrise hiking is owned and managed by a local family of Balinese who were born and grow up in Mt. Batur village, we work as Mt. Batur trekking guides since we are kids, for more than 20 years. Our teams are licensed local guides trained by the government with deep knowledge of Mt Batur and its history. All of our guides are locals from the areas we cover, so they really know the geography, history and culture of the region. For example, anytime you head up Mount Batur on a Ubud sunrise hiking, your guide will be someone who grew up next to the mountain and knows all the ins and outs of the trails and where to get the best views. Likewise if you head to Lombok you’ll be travelling with a local guide.

The hike was challenging but our tour guide Nik was super supportive and ensured we had regular breaks along the way. Nik is a friendly, funny, knowledgeable tour guide but an even better photographer. We left with amazing photos!

Very efficient from start to finish. Good WhatsApp messaging and then Emon was right on time and despite being so early was friendly and helpful. A quick chat then I fell asleep while Emon took care of the driving. Same on the return. On arrival my guide Nik was waiting and we quickly set off. Nik is great. Friendly and engaging while letting me get up the mountain at my pace. Good to have some extra water too. Simple but nice food at the top plus a good cup of local coffee while I waited for the sun to come up. The best part was the hike itself. It’s not easy, slippy on deep Sandy slopes and you need basic fitness and suitable shoes. Very worthwhile when reaching the top. A great experience and definitely recommended. Thanks all. Very much recommend the trip and the company.

May I know for the Mt batur trekking transport, it says that uluwatu is excluded. My hotel is Marriotts Bali nusa Dua terrace, will that be included in the pick up?
Hi Jingwen, If you book for 2 pax, the tour opeartor will give free pick up from Nusa Dua
Do I need a guide to climb Mount Batur?
A guide is required by the Mount Batur park authority. This helps to avoid any mishaps on the mountain as well as supports the local economy by employing locals. You'll want a guide anyway as it makes the trek in the dark a much safer experience. Guides are also great to chat with and learn about local life.
How difficult is it to climb Mt Batur?
The climb is not very difficult and is a good option for novice climbers. You will get plenty of time to rest and take it slowly during more challenging and steep parts of the trail. However we do recommend that you are comfortable with physical activity and can handle a steep walk for a few hours.
How long is the drive from Ubud?
The drive from Ubud is about 1 hour, when there is no traffic. If you are coming from Canggu, Seminyak or Kuta, expect the drive to take about 2 hours plus. You will likely need to wake up between 12am-1am.
