This was an excellent excursion! Justin’s communication was terrific. We were picked up at 3am in Ubud by Yosi, who is funny and kind. We met Nawa and Wi at the starting point, and hiked with one additional mother-daughter team. Nawa and Wi were extremely helpful to me, as I found the hike to be on the difficult side (some large steps+my bad knees=hard!) But, they were encouraging and never let me feel any doubt that we could make it up, and back down!
The sunrise was beautiful, and we felt justified in our decision to book this trip when we saw much cloud coverage at Batur!
Breakfast at the top and Nara’s excellent photo skills made it extra special.
If you want to hike to see the sunrise, skip Batur and the crowds and motorbikes. Choose this excursion instead! You will be happy you did so. The guides are not only helpful for older people like me, but so informative about the area. It was an excellent morning! My daughter, 20, said it was her favorite thing on our vacation, and as an fyi, she found the hike easy.

What a lovely trip all around! The guides were so helpful for my mom- held her hand and helped her all the way up and down! There were only for of us at the top, so lovely and peaceful. The view is spectacular, even with the rainy and cloudy weather we had. The guides are friendly and knowledgeable. So very glad we booked this hike!

Ketut the driver and guide were really friendly. Ketut the driver was kind to explain Balinese culture. Ketut the guide was great. He took good care of me while hiking. He helped me find and guide me while descending and always maintain a comfortable pace. Both were really friendly.

Booked: Mount Agung Sunrise Trekking
The hike was really secluded and quiet, we didn’t see any other people until the top where there was a small group. The boat ride in the dark was a cool experience and even better afterwards with the views of the lake - very peaceful! The breakfast is very basic (matched the description though). A little bit cloudy on our day but still great to see the volcanoes all around us and the lake. We felt for the high price it was definitely not worth the money which was a shame at $55 each for an hour hike up and down and a basic breakfast was very expensive and we didn’t feel like we learned much about the area or history. Would recommend the route and overall experience of seeing the sunrise from here but sadly not for price at all.
Bring mosquito spray and wear long clothes as they bite a lot on the walk!

We had the best day! Amazingly authentic experience for my family with 2 young teenagers and when they realised it was my birthday on the top of the mountain, they conjured up some candles to make the sunrise extra special. Only our group of 4 and one other group of 2 were there - special experience thank you!!

Hidden foresty trail with mum, enjoyed a beautiful sunrise. Enjoyed immensely, highlight of my short Bali trip. This was an amazing climb on Batur Caldera. Started with the driver (Kadek - great at maneuvering the roads) picking us up at 2.30am from Ubud and driving us meet our tour guide (Denis - helped us out a lot and took nice photos for us!) At 4am, we took a short boat ride to get to the starting point of the caldera and had a lovely view of the stars. When we arrived, Denis passed us climbing sticks and we started the steep climb, with knees already at 90 degrees. While it was a little scary since the trail is narrow, dark and at the edge of the mountain, Denis was very encouraging and helped me up at the challenging parts and I was really panting, while my 60 year old mum managed fine. Ground wasn’t very slippery, weather was good. We took about 50min to get to the top, and it was cold while waiting for the sunrise but we enjoyed the breakfast. Got some lovely shots of the sunrise, and it was just such a great reward. Then our driver took us to Akasa Coffee where we had a 2nd breakfast with a nice jungle view, then sent us back after where we slept soundly.
Highly recommend this intermediate trail. Can bring bar snacks around to hand to the kids living in there :) Many thanks to Justin who answered my million queries before confirming the booking, appreciate this so much 🙏🏼

Amazing trip! Fantastic driver (Lita) and guide (Wi). There were only four of us at the summit (a family of fellow Seek Sophiers!) and we had a view of 5 peaks to ourselves. The hike up was moderately intense (a decent challenge for my too sedentary booty) but only about 50 minutes. The boat ride was special and the memories are lasting.
