Gorgeous Kinabalu views without the summit climb.
You don’t have to climb Mount Kinabalu to experience something special. This full-day trek takes you into the UNESCO Kinabalu Geopark, hiking through the foothills near Kiau Village to the summit of Nuluh Lingion (1,420m). It’s a proper jungle hike - steeper and more challenging than many expect - but very doable if you’re reasonably fit. You’ll walk with a local guide who grew up here, trekking past pineapple plants, coffee bushes and working farms before climbing into primary forest. Along the way, you’ll hear what life is really like in the village and on the land - not as a script, but from lived experience. At the top, on a clear day, you’ll get panoramic views of Mount Kinabalu without the summit crowds. After descending (watch your footing — it can be narrow and slippery!), you’ll end the day with a home-style Dusun meal in the village. It’s a simple, warm way to experience local life up close.Difficulty Level: The summit of Nuluh Lingion is at 1420m. It’s moderately challenging. Expect steep sections, river crossings and slippery trails if it rains, but very doable if you’re generally fit. Think proper jungle hike, not a casual stroll. What to ExpectHike to the summit of Mount Nuluh Lingion (1420m asl).Enjoy authentic local Dusun hospitality.Pick up around 6.30am from your accommodation in Kota Kinabalu.Scenic drive to Kiau Village in the foothills of Mt Kinabalu.Meet your local guide and begin the two hour long hike to the summit of Nuluh Lingion.Walk through local farms where you can spot (and taste!) fresh pineapple, jackfruit, wild ginger, bananas and much more.Continue your hike through trails of primary forest up to the scenic lookout point.Enjoy a well deserved rest at the summit of Nuluh Lingion (1420 meters).Weather permitting, you’ll have panoramic views of Mount Kinabalu and it's waterfalls! After lunch, you’ll have your pick of four routes to descend back to the Kiau Village, all options include steep descents, traversing rivers, and beautiful jungle views.Arrive back at Kiau village for lunch and a chance to sample the local Dusun food at one of the village homestays before meeting your driver for the transfer back to Kota Kinabalu city.Expected arrival time back in Kota Kinabalu is around 5pm to 6pm but this is traffic & trekking route dependent.TipsIt is recommended that all guests are physically fit before joining this trip.Trails are challenging and can become vary slippery, especially if you encounter wet conditions.
