A sunrise just for us, with breakfast, and a boat ride under the stars—what more could you ask for? We’re really thrilled with this tour and highly recommend it. The whole team—Justin, Wi, and Yosi—went out of their way to make us happy. We really enjoyed the view, as well as the fact that we had the place all to ourselves while we saw countless lights and jeeps on Mount Batur. The tour is well worth it for people who love sunrises but prefer them in peace and quiet, without crowds. Thank you so much for the wonderful tour.

I had a wonderful day with Greenbike Adventure. The tour is one of the best I’ve done and the value was amazing! All of the guides were super friendly and helpful and extremely caring when I fell off (totally not their fault). The ride was super easy and mostly downhill. I would do this tour again if I was in Ubud and definitely would recommend!

We started with a visit to a local fruit market where each fruit we were t familiar was explained mad tasted. We came away with a complimentary fruit bag, next was local roadside breakfast with a view across the lake ! Next stop we arrived T the beginning of our trek through the jungle with a well informed guide. This trek suits all levels . We crossed to the other side and canoed back across the lake ! We had a beautiful local lunch in the chiefs house ! Final stop was the waterfalls and oh what a treat . Nalom you are to be commended for your vision and passion ! So lovely that you are supporting the village !

We began our visit with a welcome drink and fruit, before being given a tour of the crops and gardens. After the tour we ate the best meal we’ve had in Bali so far, with both meat eaters and vegetarians catered for.

Next, Deren drove us to a local village where we were welcomed into a family compound. Deren explained that the revenue from the experience is shared with the families whose homes we visited. He spent plenty of time describing how village life works and explaining the structure and architecture of the compound. 

By this point we’d already had such a great time that seeing the fireflies felt like an added bonus. To finish the trip, we sat together in the dark watching fireflies over the rice fields - a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us.

Thank you Deren and friends for a beautiful evening that we’ll always remember! It was a privilege to be welcomed into a different side of Balinese life.

Rice Paddies & Fireflies: A Magical Evening in Balinese Village Life

If you are looking for a genuine opportunity to connect with kind and knowledgeable locals, I cannot recommend this experience highly enough.

We spent a magical evening with Deren, learning about Balinese nature, farming, cooking, ceremonies, rituals and daily living.

We went as two families to Wayan's farm to hear about his firefly conservation project. Our kids were aged between 9 and 13 and were all engaged and fascinated from the moment we arrived. Each part of the tour was pitched at the right level - enough detail to be informative, but not too technical to go over the top of people's heads. Both Wayan and the scientists were very accommodating of people's questions.
 The food was really yummy and catered to the coeliacs in our group. The highlights were the fried spinach leaves, and my son said it was the best curry he ever had.
 We were a bit concerned about the mosquitoes being out in a rural area, and so did cover ourselves in mozzie spray and wore long sleeve shirts and pants as recommended. We actually didn't see any, and there were others there in far less clothing who seemed fine. No bites either!
 The absolute highlight for sure was seeing the fireflies out in the rice paddies and releasing our own into the night. That was an amazing experience for both the adults and the kids. It is the early stage of the project, and so we weren't expecting many (if any), but were happily surprised to see lots out in the night.
 Wayan's main source of funding for the work is from tourism, so not only was it a great night in a more natural part of Bali, it was great to know that the funds are supporting this impressive work.
 Have no hesitation in recommending this tour. We hope to come back and visit again to see more and more lights in the sky ✨️

The boat ride across the lake to get to the hike was cool and when we reached the top, it was only us! no one else-so peaceful to watch the sunrise. And Denis is a photographer extraordinaire!! he knows all the tricks for Insta worthy posts :) The breakfast was perfect lite fare - just sipping tea and coffee as the sun rose was such a neat experience. This was the best trip we did on Bali.
