Kintamani is located at the foothills of Mount Batur, and is the perfect gateway to the mountain. You can hike up Mt Batur or explore local life in the villages here.

Kintamani Experiences

If you are debating whether to book this, DO IT! We debated doing the full Mt. Batur hike but because we're not hikers and because we've heard how busy it is, we ended up doing the caldera hike instead. DO IT! Our guide Wi literally pulled me up the mountain and we got to the top for sunrise. We were the only people there, and we could see Mt. Batur, Mt. Abang and Mt. Agung and even Mt. Rinjani in the distance. This is not an easy hike. If you are not a hikers be prepared to struggle. But the support from the guide is incredible. 

We also opted to go to the hot spring and the coffee plantation. Also recommended, especially the coffee plantation. We came away with too much delicious coffee and tea.

Justin, our driver-guide, was also incredible. So friendly and so knowledgeable about all things Bali. We covered lots of topics of discussion in our time together, including local farming practices, animals, and Balinese religion and culture. 

Overall, I cannot rate this trip highly enough. My sister and I had the most incredible day we could have asked for.

Bali's Best Kept Secret: Unique Mt Batur Trek and Lake Batur Boat Ride

Our driver and guide were absolutely amazing! On the drive from UBud to base camp, we stopped at a coffee plantation where we had the opportunity to sample delicious local coffee, tea, and chocolate We chose the sunset hike and were fortunate to enjoy stunning views of the mountain with minimal rain. Our guide was very attentive and prioritized our safety throughout the journey. He was local and knew the area well. Overall, it was a fantastic adventure!

Batur Great-Value Sunset Hike | Fewer Crowds & Sleep In!

Our driver and guide were absolutely amazing! On the drive from UBud to  base camp, we stopped at a coffee plantation where we had the opportunity to sample delicious local coffee, tea, and chocolate We chose the sunset hike and were fortunate to enjoy stunning views of the mountain with minimal rain. Our guide was very attentive and prioritized our safety throughout the journey. He was local and  knew the area well. Overall, it was a fantastic adventure!

Our hike with Wi and the Bali Yok team was a great experience overall. It’s a unique route since you don’t go along the main hiking path, which made it feel more personal and interesting. Our local guide was really friendly and shared stories about the area and how the calderas were formed, which added a nice touch of history throughout the climb.

The pickup from our place was smooth and on time, and the hike itself was moderately challenging - some steep sections on the way up and a few slippery spots depending on the weather. It was chilly at the start, but it warmed up as we got further along. At the top, a lady welcomed us with tea and yummy food.

The view at the summit was partially cloudy for us, but we still got to see several peaks and felt luckier than those at the main summit, which was completely covered. Overall, it was a fun and unique hiking experience that we’d recommend.

Unfortunately the rain was falling at sunrise so the view over Lake Batur was not what I had hoped for. Thanks for creating some good photos on the jeep anyway. I'll have to come back for the sunrise another time!

Unfortunately the rain was falling at sunrise so the view over Lake Batur was not what I had hoped for.  Thanks for creating some good photos on the jeep anyway.  I'll have to come back for the sunrise another time!

100% recommmend! Gede was very responsive for our queries pre-trip, pick up and tour were well arranged with no hiccups at all. The guide who took us up My Batur was also amazing, helpful during the climb, friendly and took the initiative to take many amazing photos for us.
